Hiking With Dogs

Hiking is a fantastic exercise and a perfect way to enjoy nature. So it is understandable that you want your dog to be your adventure partner on the way. Dogs are great companions and it is enlivening to watch them enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of nature.

Just like you wouldn't go on a hike in evening shoes, you should consider and prepare for yourself and your dog to get the best out of your hiking experience. Do you have the necessary equipment for your dog? Did you learn the hiking rules and restriction in the area? You may also want to brush up on some dog training skills. Before you go out with your dog, make sure that you are well equipped to offer both you and your puppy a wonderful outdoor experience.

Hiking rules

First of all, you should not assume that a dog can walk anywhere. For example, the question arises: "Are dogs allowed in national parks?" Luckly, many national parks welcome dogs, but some have restrictions on dogs on trails. Always check that your dog is allowed to accompany you before going on a hike. If not, you could be fined, not to mention the anger of your fellow hikers. Banning dogs from parks may seem arbitrary, but keep in mind that your dog can have an environmental impact by endangering wild animals and entering sensitive ecosystems.

It is your responsibility to know the rules for each place before you go with you dog. There are general rules when it comes to national parks, but each park can have its own additional ones. Other wilderness areas such as national parks and local forests also have their own regulations too.

To protect the life of plants and animals, always keep your dog on the trail, unless you encounter others. Then leave the path with your dog by your side so that people can pass safely. Don't forget to greet others along the way as a happy hello can signal that your dog is friendly and inform your dog that there is no need to worry.
